Welcome to Hongyuan Jiang's research homepage!

Our research focuses on theoretical, computational and experimental study on biomechanics and biophysics at multiple scales. Motivated by basic scientific questions and engineering applications, we work on a wide range of problems at the interface of engineering, physics and biology, such as cell motility at low Reynolds number, mechanics of growth and development of organs and tissues, mechanics of soft materials, biomaterials and bio-inspired material design. The problems we choose to study share a few common features, such as the dynamics of shapes, force generation and force transduction in biological bodies, and how force or deformation affects bio-chemical processes.

We aim to formulate and solve theoretical or computational models, and then verify predictions by well-designed experiments. Such studies would lead to a better understanding of the fundamental questions in biological systems, and contribute to biomedical engineering applications.
