Short Biography

Xun Chen received the B.Sc. degree in the Department of Electronic Science and Technology at the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) in 2009, and received the Ph.D. degree in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of British Columbia (UBC) in 2013, under the supervision of Prof. Z. Jane Wang. He has been a research scientist at UBC, working with Prof. Rabab K. Ward. Before joining in USTC, he was with the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the Hefei University of Technology.

His research interests include the broad areas of statistical signal processing and machine learning in biomedical applications, e.g. artificial intelligence in medicine, brain-computer interface, multimodal image analysis, etc.. He has published over 150 scientific articles in prestigious IEEE/Elsevier journals. He received the recognition of Clarivate Highly Cited Researcher (2024) and World¨s Top 2% Scientists by Elsevier/Stanford (2020-2024). He is the recipient of IOP China Top Cited Paper Award (2021), IEEE Instrum & Meas Society Best Paper Award (2020) and Elsevier Highly Cited Research (2016). Besides, 14 articles are ESI Highly Cited Papers in WOS. He is an IEEE Senior Member, the Member of BCI Society, a TC Member of IEEE BISP/SSM/MBM, the Member-at-Large of IEEE TC on Smart Medical Digitalization and Chinese Society of Biomedical Engineering.

He is serving as Associate Editor-in-Chief for Intelligent Sports and Health, Area Editor for Signal Processing-Image Communication, Associate Editor for IEEE TBME/TIM/SPL/OJSP and Frontiers in Neuroscience, Editorial Board Member for Journal of Neuroscience Methods and Cognitive Neurodynamics, and also served as Guest Editor for Frontiers in Aging Neuroscience. He has served on a number of committees of international conferences, e.g. IEEE MMSP 2025, CICAI 2023, IEEE DSLW 2022/2021, IEEE ICMIPE 2021, IEEE GlobalSIP 2019, Brain Informatics 2019, GlobalSIP 2017 and CCECE 2016. He is also the reviewer for over 30 prestigious IEEE/Elsevier/Springer journals.
