To who take the course of Fundamental Astrophysics (for astro. major)
每章都会给出几道练习题,习题基本上来源于实际的天体物理现象或者日常生活。基本上不需要详细计算,只需要确定物理量之间的关系和做量级估计,即可得到有意义的结论;在实际的科研探索工作中,大部分时间都是在做这种估计。这些习题目的在于帮助同学们养成物理思维习惯,即形成应用已知的物理规律去解决具体的实际的未知问题的自动化“本能”反应,把学过的物理当作强大的工具去探索解决新问题,而不是仅仅当作知识和信息;天体物理学的一个很大的方面就是这种类型的研究。希望同学们认真做这些习题,特别是理解概念和过程的物理实质(例如“热”、吸收/散射截面、辐射压、爱丁顿吸积等),考试内容不会超出这些物理概念和过程。
Project作业鼓励同学们自己提出问题去作研究,而不仅仅是作调研。目的为了训练科学素养、解决实际问题的能力以及合作协调能力,养成正确的思考和工作的方法。

It is strongly
recommended to submit your homework in electronic formats of .doc (Microsoft Word) or .tex (Latex); for the ease of
correction and the potential reuse of your solutions, please do not submit it in .pdf format.
The assignment for
Chap. 0 is here. It should be
handed in by Oct. 10, 12:00pm, to dongxiaobo@gmail.com .
An advice: Do NOT spend much time on the learning of
Latex, you can just fill your text into a example Latex file. A suitable file
is here; it supports Chinese characters using
Ctex. Ctex and the good editor named WinEdt can be downloaded via http://210.45.66.25/~dengjs/latex/
.
Hand-written
format is also accepted if you cannot find a computer. And you can put your
exercise book into my mailbox in the 1st-floor hall of the No.1
teaching bldg. If we would like to adopt your solution to some problem as one
of the recommendations, I will ask for your permission to make it publicly
available and with your name referred to as the solver.

About the project and literature-survey of
specific topics

members each, and turn in your grouping by Oct.
11. In the end of this semester, every group is required to submit a
term-paper and give an oral presentation of about 15 minutes.

(enlarging). You are encouraged to propose an interested topic by yourself; in
this way you should report it to the teachers for their assessment before you
do it. Pls believe in your ability as we do, which will definitely surprise
yourself in the end of the course. You may find confidence from the experience

About the preliminary astronomy
Since the
department has arranged courses like Observational
Astronomy and Galactic Astronomy
for undergraduate students majoring in Astronomy, so we will give broad yet
rather terse introductions/overviews of certain somehow confusing astronomical
phenomena, try our best to avoid minutiae and arcane issues, and will stress to
some degree the underlying physics.
An excellent
textbook is Harwit’s Astrophysical Concepts (网上有电子版). The chap. 1 of Galaxies
in the Universe: An Introduction by Sparke and Gallagher III is highly
recommended to consult for preliminary astronomical knowledge (教材科有卖).
关于天文预备内容,也有中文材料(附后)。一个建议是:阅读《物理宇宙学讲义》(俞允强)前三章,大约80页,对恒星星系宇宙有一个全貌性了解;更简略的,阅读《天体物理导论》(徐仁新)第一章,p.6--18约10页;其中第1.3节(约5页)扼要地勾勒了星系研究的传统与现代内容(超大质量黑洞、暗物质)。以上两书东区活动中心一楼书店有买。
